@MissySnowie Exactly. And with so many variables involved in modding, it just won't work for everyone, even with legit games.
Only the "disgruntled" normally have these fits. You also see it with restaurant reviews and other services.
In some respects, I do feel sorry for this individual because he has major anger issues. He should talk to a family member or friend or best get professional help.
He was constantly toxic spamming here and doing his best to make it look like I was just creating an elaborate hoax to fool everyone into thinking I actually had my DLC in the root. The best part is when I linked, just for this sad little guy, to videos I had made 2 and 3 years ago which plainly displayed my file structure with the DLC folder in the root. That's really devious on my part right?
Anyway I stole this video from Tik Tok and now will use it for trolls. I should put a meme text on it like this:
When Somebody Thinks It's Impossible to relocate DLC:

@GreekMan Thanks and welcome. Holler if you need help
@MissySnowie thank you!
@JoyLucien How did I discover this method?
I have been using PCs and Windows software since I was 7 years old. When I first started modding, i realized quickly that the game would be more stable if the number of addons loading was managed. For that reason I decided to create separate mod folders for Liberty City and a few other mods that had many very large worlds like racing tracks (1 GB or over per addon). I wanted to reduce duplication, even though storage space wasn't an issue, so i thought of moving all the DLC into the root folder - this means a huge savings in terms of eliminating duplication.
I understand the concept of paths inside out and realized that I could definitely try this with OpenIV. Obviously the syntax is exactly the same you would use for HTML, batch files, python - all of which i use extensively.
The dot represents the root folder, any root folder, so just switching to ./ was quick and easy. Then I also added subfolders. My game and setup is hyper organized because i have 100s of GBs of addons, all managed effortlessly and intelligently.
@MissySnowie The cracked game explains why it didn't work for the guy who gave me a half star rating. I thought it was just because my tool was much better than his his and he was madly jealous. He had a video and it clearly was not steam, epic, or rsg. Anyway, thank you so much for the rating but most importantly for confirming it worked with RGL.
This makes sense because this mod, which I took down several times because the comment section was a cesspool of toxicity thanks to this wonderful individual, had cumulatively over 450 downloads, yet just a handful of issues. In comparison, any script will get hundreds of "it doesn't work for me".
Saddest part? Even someone with the IQ of a turnip should understand that if a tool doesn't work for you specifically, then just don't use it.
@JoyLucien I never pirate games. Partially for ethical reasons - because my brother is a senior director for a AAA gaming studio here - but also because they often contain malware that can't be detected by normal AV and similar tools. So I can't comment on whether this should or should not work with a cracked copy - and honestly who cares, right?
I do however, refuse to believe my game is special. For sure my game is configured differently than 99% of users. Aside from the fact that it's not installed on the C drive (the most common drive) my DLC is not where others have it. I also have very different settings for the game - but these are changes by my own scripts - to disable all notifications and help and tips etc. And I don't use any 3rd party scripts - just the basic enablers like SHV, SHVDN, Heap, Pack, LemonUI etc.
All that to say my game is super modified versus "stock". Would love to hear from the users who did download and never confirmed whether Tool 2's approach worked or not.
It's interesting in @liehuosj 's log, he chose to use ./aaa as his folder whereas i chose ./DLC. Any name should work.
@JoyLucien If your friend tested this, I would love to see the OpenIV log. That might quickly answer the question if the load failed and why - assuming it gave the reason.
@liehuosj I'm really glad to hear that. I thought I was going nuts. The original upload had over 300 downloads and only 2 people complained about it not working. I'm still going to assume there is a variable in the mix that makes it work or not work.
@InfiniteQuestion Were you using a cracked game? I remember your video the game was installed in some sketchy looking path. Maybe that's why it wasn't working for you? Please confirm since your abundant comments confirm your interest.
@JoyLucien Ok, so we have another use confirming it worked for them and ofc hundreds of users did NOT report issues.
Having said that, you said your friend couldn't get it to work on a legal Steam copy, so I guess the troubleshooting for this mystery is not over.
@JoyLucien Hi Joy. Yes, from the same game installation, i can load addons from both my DLC folder and also from the standard dlcpacks folder in the mods folder.
I also did a clean install on a laptop without issues loading from DLC folder. I was actually hoping it would not work - that would have allowed me to troubleshoot. I can't troubleshoot my own game because nothing is broken. lol.
Possible variables - most have been eliminated:
Game platform (Steam, Epic, RGL)
Game version (old to current)
Installed Asi/Scripts (conflicts?)
Windows? Path command? Can it be a path issue?
Open IV version
Open IV settings and configuration
GTA V game settings and configuration
@InfiniteQuestion Thank you for the rating. I honestly expected less than half a star so you exceeded my expectations. I hope I can return the favour if you ever upload something original.
